The USCIS today announced that it received over 200,000 cap/lottery H-1b cases this year. Those of us (including myself) who felt the imposition of new extra-regulatory requirements and the increase in denial rates would lead to a lower number of filings, were clearly mistaken as the number of submissions is an increase over last year. They also indicated that they have completed the lottery process and, if past practice, is any indication, we will start to receive receipts for those selected over the next 6 weeks.
As expected, the USCIS announced that it received enough petitions to exceed the statutory cap and a lottery will be held to choose those H-1b petitions which will be processed. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
