On July 2019, the House of Representatives passed HR 1044, called the “Fairness for High Skilled Immigration Act”. The bill is designed to limit employment based green cards. On September 17, 2019, the bill was blocked by Senator David Perdue from Georgia. One of the concerns centers around the impact that the bill would have on the recruitment of international RN’s from the Philippines. It is expected that Senator Perdue and Senator Lee will try and work out a compromise to protect this important industry. However, whether an agreement can be reached is still unknown. Additional insight about the current state of this bill can be found at the WSJ. Additionally, If you would like to follow the bill using the official Congressional web-site, you can access that here.
