Effective August 29, 2017, credit cards will no longer be accepted to schedule appointments for most non-immigrant visa applications at US consulates in Mexico, including H-1B and TN cases.

Applicants will now be required to pay the fee in person, in cash, at a Citi Banamex or Scotiabank locations across Mexico. The Department of State indicated the reason for making this change was the number of credit card chargebacks it was experiencing.

This change creates a huge inconvenience for US workers who must now coordinate payment of the fee through family members or friends in Mexico in order to schedule appointments when renewing H-1B or TN visas.

This change should be taken into consideration when planning for visa renewal trips as an additional time requirement that must be considered.
