HLG in DC 02/29/08
HLG is in Washington DC today working with a team of staffing companies, the CTIHS, the lobbyists, and other aligned interests.
Where we are so far:
1. Last spring/summer, we were counseled to hold off on lobbying for additional Schedule A visas in light of the proposed Comprehensive Immigration Reform. That effort untimely failed in the Senate.
2. Last fall our effort was one of only two positive immigration efforts that were passed by a house of Congress; namely a proposal to revive the EX Visa category, a category exclusively for professional nurses and physical therapists, and their immediate family members.
3. Our effort then turned to the House. Unfortunately we ran out of time; the calendar year ended before we could muster enough support in the House.
4. We have spent the first two months of 2008 working with House leadership in order to find a sponsor and champion for our legislation. That effort continues and is the subject of today’s meeting. We are optimistic that we will have both in the near term.

SENATOR CONRAD INTRODUCES PHYSICIAN IMMIGRATION BILL
This is a very important proposal that would permanently extend the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program for doctors working in medically underserved areas. This vital program expires in June and it is vital that Congress pass an extension bill soon. The bill would also create an H-1B cap exemption for certain doctors that work in underserved areas as well as rewarding the service with an exemption from employment-based green card caps. The bill number is S.2672 and I am attaching it here
Any chance for Schedule A legislation soon. House representatives had told that Schedule A legislation may happen in the first quarter. Kindly update as the first quarter of the year is gonna end soon.

Good news for physicians, although I wonder if the bill will ever emerge from the committees, most bills perish there. If it does survive maybe it will be the perfect vehicle to attach Sch A amdt to.
These type of bills shifts the focus from immigration issues to issues regarding healthcare shortage and its victims. This will provide a reason to the legislators to vote for it. Since it only talks about healthcare, other controversial amdts regarding H-1Bs etc etc have no relevance here.
The CTIHS should lobby to attach our amdt to similar bills that are non-controversial and hence easier to pass.

Releasing too many details to the public might not be wise. In addition, the current congress is unpredictable. We’ve observed that in the last whole year. So my take on HLG’s message is this, if HLG says it’s in near term, it means soon. But there is nothing more that can be predicted. After all, HLG’s message keeps us positive and brings hope to every one of us. I really appreciate it, HLG.

To the one asking regarding if the embassy will issue visa if one has taken the nclex-rn and failed, I think the embassy will require to take it again because by attempting to take it but failing the test disqualifies one for interim permit application. You won’t be able to work as an rn without it.
True that the contract may only require cgfns but if you have attempted nclex-rn and failed, you must really take it again.
If you haven’t taken nclex-rn(attempted), the embassy would have given you a visa because you would have qualified for IP with cgfns cert and visa screen.

I am registered nurse and applied for a US visa on 2006.My visa screening Certifate expires on July 2009. I would like to know what is the procedure for reniewing visa screening certifiacte. Now i am expecting a babby. Do i need to submit the application again when i gave birth to get the visa for my baby. If anybody knows about the procedure for applying visa for the baby, pl tell me.
Since i need to write the IELTS again for reniewing my visa screening certificate, kindly let me know ehether i can write now and submit the certicate to CGFNS at the latter stage when i apply for reniewing.
I would be happy if anybody can answer my queries

You need to submit IELTS again to CGFNS and pay $150.Go to cgfns.org and visit visa screen section.For baby visa u need to resubmit DS230 form with fees or even u can remit fees before u r interview

If you have a Visa screen certificate and you wish to renew the same. right? If it is so, as per current CGFNS requirement, you need not take IELTS again, you have the provision to renew the same, but should be in advance

I took my NCLEX with Board of Nurse examiners in Texas & most of my friends did. Their instructions are very easy to follow & they are very easy to contact when you want to ask questions regarding your application or any enquiries. You don’t need to have a SSN to apply for NCLEX exam. IT took me 2-3 mos to process my application for NCLEX

Ireland greencard is entirely different from one that USA is giving…It resembles only in its name. It is somewhat equilent to the workpermit issued by UK. Hope it helps.
