Eyes Toward Iowa – GOP Side 01/03/08
The Republican side is even more muddled. Any of five candidates could win the national primary: Giuliani, Romney, Thompson, McCain, and Huckabee. Neither Giuliani nor Thompson, whose campaign seems to be waning, figures to finish high in Iowa. Giuliani still is expected to contend when the national primaries start in late January and February.
The Republicans have traditionally been the US’ ‘law and order’ party (candidate Fred Thompson was an actor on the TV program, “Law and Order”). The Republican candidates have been much more vocal in calling for a fence along the Mexican border and the deportation of the estimated 12-15 million illegal and undocumented.
McCain is the most overtly-friendly candidate on the issue of immigration. Giuliani is also generally seen as immigration friendly. Thompson has called for the reduction of visa backlogs.
Romney and Huckabee are thought to be more restrictionist than the others. Click below to read for yourself:

HI HLG/CRIS

WHAT IS YOUR EXPETED ODDS INACTED OUR AMENDMENT SHORTLY,

Re- What happened in 07
While HLG is surely disappointed in the outcome of Healthcare visa reform in 2007, I don’t think that it is accurate to say that we’re giving false hopes, or that we’ve stopped pushing the issue. The October amendment that was offered and unanimously consented to by the Senate is the proof of that.
Thanks to those like jyao, toms, turgsmoy, etc.
Re- CTIHS
I think that we have been open about the lobbying and have posted updates, etc.
There is a CTIHS meeting on Monday in DC with lobbyists and several Congressional staffers. Believe me: the push is still on 100%.
Hello guys!
I passed the New Zealand IELTS requirement! I’ll be working there as an R.N. What a wonderful way to wait for my U.S PD to come. Hope to see you guys there also. Let’s be proactive while waiting for our U.S dream to happen. God bless us all…
to marj..
does it include your family?
thanks..
Hi Marj,
did u apply for a job in new zealand.. how did things go.. do let us all know in detail.. whether u applied on u;r own or through some staffing agent.. etc..
To ricky and sweet,
The agency that’s processing my New Zealand application is Golden Summit here in Cebu. But we can apply on our own online of course. I’m just not so good in paper things thus I sought their help. Processing for nurses will take 6 to 9 months depending as well on how fast you can suppy the necessary requirements. Our visa entry will be student visa for we still have to undergo the Nursing Competency Program for 2 months. After completing the programme, we will be licensed as New Z, Australian, UK, and Ireland RN. Once we get hold of our working permit (which won’t take long), that’s the time we can start looking for a job. Foreign nurses are in great demand and highly appreciated/respected in NZ so nothing to worry about this aspect. Our family will be able to follow once we get a job. We still need to supply the embassy our first payslip, certificate of tenancy, and show money(around 130k) to assure them that we can support our family. Family reunification won’t take long. My agency promised a maximum of 44-day processing and we will be reunited. This is going to cost us a lot though. We need to prepare around 500k for the entire processing that includes; agency fee, embassy fee, school fee, show money, and 2way plane fare. This amount is huge but if we look at the long term benefits for us, for our family, it’s well worth it!
Hope I satisy your queries guys. Gos Bless!!
hello marj
what is the IELTS requierments for newzeland
Hi all,
Do leave your US hopes. It will be there today or tomorrow
IELTS overall 7.0 with minimum 7.0 in each of the 4 modules.
Hello Marj,
Congratulations for spending your time in a productive way while waiting for your US dream to happen. If you don’t mind, how much is the salary range for the international nurses in NZ? Do you have to pay for the agency? How many months is your contract with them?
I have friends who do not have NCLEX and CGFNS certificate. They might be interested with NZ.
Thanks and God bless to you!
To grace,
Golden Summit (my agency) is not a recruitment agency. They process only the Student Visa application, Nursing Council application, school enrollment/accomodations and family reunification for nurses and other health care workers who want to go to New Zealand. When I finished my Competency Programme, that’s the time I’ll start scouting for an employer.
A friend of mine who just finished his Competency last month and has started working now told me that starting salary range for an RN is between 22 to 25 dollars/hr minus tax. hope this helps. thanks…
Thanks Marj!
Is this true?…There are only about 9,800 employment-based immigrant visas per year available for the Philippines. That number is shared by all professions including Engrs, IT, Nurses, Cook, etc. Dependents also get from that quota.
Philippines is among the countries which are known to be over-subscribed, meaning there are more applicants than the available visa numbers.
It is imperative that the only solution to our problem is additional visa numbers through legislation. However, 2008 is election year. Just like last year when politicians started campaigning, this year will be much more and seeing immigration law passed is far from possible.
Currently, the situation is the retrogression of EB3 Philippines but there are some hope with EB2 Philippines because it is still showing “C”, current. If EB1 and EB2 Philippines are left unused, it will be given to EB3 Philippines come end of the immigration fiscal year, that is about July to September 2008. I think those with PD of 2004 (lucky if 2005) will get a shot for a visa this year.
Those with PD of 2005 to 2006 (half of 2007), will get shot for a visa in 2009 and those with PD of 2007 will get in 2010.
TO ALLOF YOU WORKING IN AUSTRALIA – SALARY SCALES
Rates of pay in Australia depend on how much registered nursing and or midwifery experience you have had.
For example:
RN or RM with 1 years experience = 1.1 or Grade 1
RN or RM with 2 years experience = 1.2 or Grade 2
RN or RM with 3 years experience = 1.3 or Grade 2 Year 2
When you arrive in Australia you will need to bring ‘statements of service’ from each of your previous employers as evidence of your registered experience. Statements of service need to be on hospital letterhead signed and dated, and simply need to state your start and finish dates, position and the number of hours of worked per week. On commencement of employment, the pay office will confirm your exact salary and grading increment from your Statement’s of Service. If you are unable to obtain statements of service from all your previous employers we recommend you provide a statutory declaration with this information.
The salary tables below give you a good indication of base salaries however you are welcome to send your statements in advance if your salary is not specified in your contract.
Please be aware that in some instances, statements of service from countries where the Australian nursing boards consider the education and standard of nursing not equivalent to Australia may not be counted (e.g. Philippines, India).
Your salary will be credited into your Australian bank account. You will also be entitled to Superannuation (pension payments); this will be paid into an Australian fund set up by your employer. You may recoup these monies when you leave Australia after you submit your Australian tax return.

Maybe better wait for Congress to come back from holidays (22nd Jan). Nothing’s gonna happen till then for sure. What’s new about lobbying? Its going on as usual I guess. Just wait patiently for Legislators to come back. Anyways its the first quarter of the year or nothing; so no question of waiting and watching the whole year around.
Joe’s stats about Australia looks interesting!!
Especially about the way they treat experience..
Meanwhile how much is the tax deduction?
Family allowance AUD 960.00.. What does it mean? Is it per annum? Is it only for Permanent residence (PR holders) or to all working visas?
Anyway congrats for you nice effort….
Good Luck
