CONGRESS BACK IN SESSION 12/06/06

Written by: admin

It’s looking unlikely that Congress will allow any omnibus funding bills to pass with earmarks for things like retrogression relief. (The “Do-Nothing Congress,” as some of you readers/commentors have correctly called them). That having been said, there is still a chance that the GOP leaders change their mind and allow an omnibus bill with earmarks.

Nevertheless, we’re putting the chances of retrogression relief during December — the lame duck session — at less than 20% and decreasing every day. We’re still putting the chances of retrogression relief at 90% by Summer 2007.

One interesting news item: the USCIS won’t be hurting for dollars in 2007; prices are going up.

Does the above mean that they are getting the dollars merely by increasing the fee and not increasing the number of the number of people who can file for 485i? I guess that by increasing the priority date faster, more people would be able to pay for the increased fee and thereby generate more money for USCIS. Any comments?

This only means that the price to file various immigration forms — N400, I140, etc — will increase, and that CIS expects fewer cases to be filed because of the increased fees.

I think as per the recent reports emerged today Sen. Cronyn is trying his last minute efforts to Get SKILL bill out of the Senate in Lame Duck session. so all of Sch-A peoples should support the effort by contacting respective senators through their employers letters ASAP.

Well by above, it seems to me that CIS is anti immigration. I dont support significantly increasing H1B, however I would like EB relief soon. It seems like 245(i) beneficiaries, well kind of illegals, will be given their green cards faster than legals if the retrogression relief is delayed or denied. I think it is very unfair. How about having at least a different category of Employement Based Category for 245(i) applicants, beneficiaries?
